The 88-year-old business tycoon Henry Sy is on his sixth year as the country’s richest man, according to Forbes Magazine’s August issue in an article titled “The Philippines’ 50 Richest.” 

With the Philippines’ fast growing economic prowess, the rich are getting richer according to the magazine, and it was proven when the collective wealth of the people on the list summed up a combined total of $ 65.8 billion, or more than a quarter of the Philippines’ total gross domestic product.

Sy’s 2012 estimated wealth of $ 9.1 billion increased with the help of the country’s booming economic performance adding up another 
$ 2.9 billion reaching his 2013 record of $ 12 billion.

Second on the list is the 79-year-old Tobacco King, Lucio Tan, with the estimated wealth of $ 7.5 billion having an addition of $ 3 billion to his last year’s record of $ 4.5 billion making him the biggest gainer of the year. 

Last year’s sixth spot holder, Andrew Tan jumped to the number three spot with his $4.6 billion estimated wealth taking over Enrique Razon, Jr. who dropped to the fourth spot.

Taking the fourth to tenth places are billionaires Enrique Razon, Jr. ($ 4.5 billion), John Gokongwei, Jr. ($ 3.4 billion), Jaime Zobel de Ayala and family ($ 3.1 billion), Aboitiz family ($ 3 billion), David Consuji ($ 2.7 billion), George Ty and family ($ 2.6 billion), and Puregold’s Lucio and Susan Co ($ 1.9 billion).

Former Senator Manuel Villar took the number 16th spot with his first ever billionaire status with the estimated wealth of $ 1.05 billion. Newcomer Ramon Ang landed at the number 31 spot after buying Eduardo Cojuangco’s San Miguel stake with his new record of $260 million. Felipe Gozon and family settled at the 41st spot with $200 million and Manuel V. Pangilinan at the number 50 spot with $105 million.
