Coming from a basketball high upon finishing second best and earning a ticket to the World Cup in the recently concluded 27th FIBA Asia Championship, Pinoy basketball aficionados are yet to rest for the opening of the Philippine Basketball Association’s Governors Cup 2013.

Moved to a later date to give way for the training of Gilas Pilipinas and FIBA Asia Championship, the PBA Governors’ Cup is set to kick off on August 14, 2013, Wednesday at the Mall Of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Air21 Express tangles with Global Port Batang Pier in the opening game at 5:15pm followed by the defending champion Rain or Shine Elasto Painters taking on the their last year’s finals rival San Mig Coffee Mixers at 7:30pm.


Elasto Painters will parade again their 2010-2011 Governor’s Cup import Arizona Reid, who was also the Best Import of the tourney. Reid will face an import returnee also of the Mixers, Marqus Blakely. Blakely will try to avenge their sorry Game Seven loss in the last year’s edition against Rain or Shine.

Express is bringing back Zach Graham in their line-up while Batang Pier will banner Markeith Cummings. Alaska Aces will suit up Wendell McKines while Barako taps Mike Singletary. Ginebra Gin Kings will use the services of Dior Lowhorn. Meralco Bolts will display again Mario West and Elijah Millsap for the Petron Blaze Boosters. Tony Mitchell is also back for the Talk N’ Text Tropang Texters.

The import-laden tournament which is set to end on October 25 at the latest will be the last conference for the 2012-2013 PBA Season and will be aired at AkTV.
